Senators Christopher Dodd and Hank Brown will participate in a senatorial dialogue on the future of the United States Congress. The Senators will discuss the present function and dysfunction of the U.S. Congress in a discussion moderated by Rohn Robbins.
Christopher Dodd is a Democratic Party politician who served as a Senator from Connecticut for a thirty-year period ending with the 111th U.S. Congress. Dodd served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic for two years prior to entering law school at the University of Louisville, and during law school concurrently served in the United States Army Reserve. Dodd served as general chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1995 to 1997. He served as Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee until his retirement. In 2006 Dodd decided to run for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, but eventually withdrew after running behind several other competitors. In January 2010 Dodd announced that he would not run for re-election in the 2010 midterm elections. In March 2011 the Motion Picture Association of America announced that Dodd would head that organization.
Hank Brown is both an attorney and C.P.A. and had a successful business career before being elected to the U.S. Senate from Colorado as a Republican. Brown graduated from college in 1961 and from law school in 1969, both from the University of Colorado, he also has a Master of Law degree from George Washington University. Brown spent six years serving Colorado in the U.S. Senate, which was preceded by five consecutive terms in the U.S. House representing Colorado’s 4th Congressional District and four years in the Colorado Senate. From 1962 to 1966, he served in the U.S. Navy where he volunteered his service in Vietnam and was decorated for his combat service as a forward air controller. Throughout his 40-year career, Mr. Brown has held several positions in public service. Most recently, Mr. Brown served as the 21st President of the University of Colorado. From 1998 to 2002, Mr. Brown served as the 11th president of the University of Northern Colorado. The Wall Street Journal called Brown the “best college president you’ve never heard of.” Brown is currently Senior Counsel in Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s Denver office. He is a member of the Government Relations and Natural Resources groups.

The event will be held in the Community Room of Craig Hall (marked as #23 on the campus map). Parking is available in Lot 301 (marked as #301 on the parking map) – you can pay at a meter or a pay station. The pay station accepts coins, bills, Visa and MasterCard. The meters accept coins, Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Once you exit the parking area Craig Hall is located on the eastern side of S. High St. (walking west from the parking area). You will walk down a short series of steps and the entrance to the Community Room will be on your right. The address of Craig Hall is 2148 S. High St. Denver, CO 80208, just south of the intersection of S. High St and E. Evans Ave.
