View Our Calendar A prosperous, secure, and climate-stable world must shift from fossil fuels to efficient use and benign supply. The pieces of this puzzle are now falling into place in a detailed synthesis underway at Rocky Mountain Institute. Existing technology and business-led market deployment can displace all U.S. oil by the 2040s at an average cost of about $15/bbl (2000 US$), half by redoubling end-use efficiency and the rest by substituting saved natural gas and advanced biofuels. The rapidly emerging shift from wasteful to highly efficient use of electricity (often with expanding returns) and from central thermal power stations to distributed renewable sources should also be cheaper and more resilient than present arrangements while offering important opportunities for nuclear nonproliferation. In short, defossilizing fuels can be led by business for profit.
This event will present a detailed picture of RMI’s goals and strategies within Reinventing Fire. This initiative encompasses more than just the automotive industry; it is a plan to increase energy efficiency across the board.
“Reinventing Fire aims to change minds and clarify choices by showing what exists, what works, what makes sense and makes money, what can change the world.”
Amory Lovins founded the Rocky Mountain Institute in 1982 as a non-profit, entrepreneurial, environmental think-and-do tank. This practice what you preach method has served the organization and Lovins well. Lovins has briefed nearly 20 heads of state and has 11 honorary degrees. |
